Dr. Sagmiller did her undergraduate work in her home state at the University of Montana. After years of teaching in public school she completed her Masters in secondary education and her Ph.D. at the University of Washington. She has worked at federal research lab in the renewal of administrative leaders and provided professional development for teachers throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Kay is currently the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning for Oregon State University. Dr. Sagmiller and her colleagues assist all Oregon State teachers enhance their teaching skills to promote learning for all students. As a researcher, she is interested in how leadership, curricular practices and faculty development, when carefully tended, act as culture building activities. Her areas of expertise include program development and evaluation, supervision and instruction, the modernization of general education, and faculty development. An advocate for faculty, she served on the Oregon University System’s Learning Outcomes and Assessment Task Force and has been instrumental in organizing two state-wide conferences for higher education faculty, Teaching TALKS: Today’s Academics Linking Knowledge and Skills.
