Quality Teaching Symposium

The Quality Teaching (QT) Symposium kicks off OSU's Teaching Excellence Week.

Hosted by the Center for Teaching and Learning on April 28, 2026, the QT Symposium features evidence-based teaching practices that support inclusive learning, teaching as a discipline, and mentorship of learners.

We invite administrators, faculty, and graduate teaching assistants to join us for a day of engagement and inspiration.

The event takes place in person at the Memorial Union from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with online sessions from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.

9:00 - 9:50 AM - Session A

Let's Go, Team! Strategies for Teaching and Assessing Student Teamwork (Horizon Room) In this interactive session, faculty will learn and try out classroom activities for making teamwork a more meaningful experience for students.

Active Learning Meets Formative Assessment: How to Know What Your Students Know? (Multipurpose Room) This session explores what formative assessment is and why it is so critical to student learning and effective teaching.


10:00 - 10:50 AM - Session B

Mini-grant Poster Expo (Horizon Room) In this session, awardees of the 2025 Center for Teaching and Learning mini-grant will share their projects in poster presentations.

Authentic Assessment in the Age of AI: Designing for Human Effort and Enduring Skills (Multipurpose Room) Drawing on a framework developed by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), this session offers practical strategies faculty can apply to strengthen assessments and deepen student learning. 

Dialogical Pedagogy (Journey Room) Participants will practice dialogue across differences and experience firsthand the kind of collaborative inquiry that can spark new insights within a group.

Student View: Centering Students with Learning Disabilities (Horizon Room) Join this listening session to reflect and gain practical insight into fostering more inclusive and equitable learning environments.

Teaching Writing in the Age of AI: Designing Assignments That Center Process (Multipurpose Room) In this session, we’ll explore how scaffolded drafting, feedback loops, and intentional design keep students engaged in the work of composing—and how building in time and support for each stage makes AI shortcuts less tempting.

Conversation Strategies for Student Support and Referrals (Journey Room) This workshop provides attendees with tangible approaches for caring conversations, including strategies for effective referrals.

1:00 - 1:50 PM - Session D VIRTUAL SESSION

Experience Required: How Small Grants Made Big Experiential Learning Moments Possible In this session, hear how Cascades faculty micro-grant recipients used modest funding to bring more hands‑on, authentic learning into their 100–200 level classes. 

Peer Review of Teaching: Strengths, Challenges, and Lessons from across the University This panel discussion will bring together faculty from across OSU to share how their unit approaches and implements peer review of teaching and teaching evaluation.

Global and Intercultural Learning: Getting Students "Out There" in the Classroom & Beyond This panel discussion is for faculty in any discipline interested in incorporating global and intercultural learning into their courses.

Bringing Research into the Classroom: The Promise of Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences This session explores the promise of Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) as a powerful approach to bringing authentic research into the classroom.

Documenting Quality Teaching in Promotion, Tenure and Annual Review The session offers practical strategies for articulating teaching effectiveness, innovation, and impact. Participants will leave with concrete approaches for highlighting quality teaching in P&T dossiers and annual review documents.
